Brandon Phillips Signs with Boston Red Sox

3-Year Deal Worth $30 Million

Phillips to Bat Second in Red Sox Lineup

Boston, MA – The Boston Red Sox have signed second baseman Brandon Phillips to a three-year, $30 million contract, the team announced today. Phillips, 36, is a four-time Gold Glove winner and two-time All-Star who has played for the Cincinnati Reds, Los Angeles Angels, and Atlanta Braves over his 15-year career.

Phillips is expected to bat second in the Red Sox lineup, behind leadoff hitter Mookie Betts. He will provide the team with a veteran presence and a strong bat in the middle of the order.

"Brandon is a great addition to our team," said Red Sox manager Alex Cora. "He's a proven winner and a great hitter. We're excited to have him in Boston."

Phillips is excited to join the Red Sox and is looking forward to contributing to the team's success.

"I'm thrilled to be a part of the Red Sox," said Phillips. "This is a great team and I'm excited to help them win a championship."

The Red Sox are coming off a disappointing 2019 season, finishing with a record of 84-78. They are hoping to rebound in 2020 and with the addition of Phillips, they have a good chance of doing so.
